Russia, as Exploited by Putin, Has a Long History of Moral Suffering
The distortion of World War II memory in Russia has a long, long history. There are books which ignore the Molotov-Ribbentop Pact between Nazi Germany and Russia prior to the war. Putin is always trying to be photographed alongside veterans of the Great Patriotic War as it's known there. Of course we owe those who fought against Nazis a great debt of gratitude - but this doesn't mean that we shouldn't observe the shallow exploitation of their memory for Putin's own ends.
