Dose of Refractory Status Epilepticus

The recommended second-line agents include phenobarbital, phosphhenetone, levertiracetam, which is capra and valproic acid. All the doses are mentioned in our show notes. For capra, the initial loading dose is 30 to 60 milligram per kilo. I would caution the use of valproic Acid, especially in patients who have mitochondrial disease. The first line therapy for refractory status epilepticus is benzodiazepines.
