Social Gospel and Theology of Theology - What Is It All About?
As pre millennialism took over, it was increasingly liberal christians who were on the forefront of society concerns. The juxtaposition of liberalism and social welfare made it harder for conservatives to get on board with social programmes. To stand with workers against bad working conditions might make one look like a socialist. Todecry oppressive monetary policy might sound anti capitalist. We live in a world where it is socially uncomfortable to be both theologically orthodox while also looking out for those less fortunate than ourselves. If you only care about yourself, doing good doesn't make you a christian. That is the line that william jennings brian would try to walk.
