The Imperial Family and Buddhism
I think you can see buddhism and shintias being two sides of a coin. Nobody would just go to a kami. If you're praying for anything, it would be both. And the imperial family was so poor that it sometimes it had to sell its own caligraphy. I mean, it was just totally ignored am at that particular time. This is why shinto is so awfully difficult to actually discussie. It's dreadful.
