Hannibal is a young man, and these wars against the romans are never short. The first war had lasted 23 years. This war will actually last 16 years. If hannibal is going to break up the roman alliance, he is going to have to do it by demonstate. And that means he needs to fight more battles. He seeks out battles continuously throughout his campaigning. An it's quite striking that hannibal has won the first of his great battles, trebia. In 270, in the following year, the battle of trasamin to fight and win. But there are many, many more battles to be fought and many more campaigns to be waged.
