What's the Difference Between a Shopping Agreement and an Option?
The difference between a shopping agreement and an option is an option you pre negotiate everything. It's a much longer and more complicated document that I would not feel comfortable doing myself. The authors, if you adapt this book and write the script and Sony wants to buy it, the author has to make a deal to option his material or her material to Sony and you have to make your own deal to sell the script or write the script to Sony. But what the deal is saying is that you and the issues author in this case are linked as in you can't make a deal with a buyer unless both of you agree in good faith to negotiate separate deals.
