This is also the first time that the world power with the most influence over this land puts the notion of a Jewish state on the international agenda. The revolt enters a much bloodier phase in which the British exercise some very heavy-handed counterinsurgency measures. And it's when the Haganah goes from a glorified night watchman's unit to the seed of a Jewish army.
