How Do You Deal With Steps?

I do character by character because that's just the way it works for me to stay in the space of the actor's character so I will in a reel. Some people however are more comfortable getting one surface out of the way and switching shoes, but I prefer to stay with a character. If I'm doing backgrounds staying with one shoe all the way through then go back and do another shoe of backgrounds all theway through. One of the things that I really try to disabuse people about is to think that there's a rubric because I'm very anti-rubric everybody has a different way of learning and a different wayof approaching.
