I was fascinated by the role of enslaved people in the White House kitchen and in the development of American cuisine, as we know it today. I try to highlight the role of First Ladies and First Families were appropriate. They turns out that First Ladies are not only important for the domestic sphere of the White House, but also politically. Some women really enjoyed the role, like Dolly Madison or Jackie Kennedy,. Others really didn't like it.
