When the Soviet Union collapsed, how many people really believed in it? There was some, but it certainly wasn't everyone. And I think it's like that within science. Most scientists have this dogmatically mechanistic materialist worldview or deeply committed to it. But it doesn't go that deep in many people because they're in experiences which go beyond it. We meet people all the time on the fringes of science with ideas and they seem utterly incapable of bringing those ideas into a public discussion.
