Sally Kohn: We live in an age of bullshit, people would much rather hear a comforting lie than a discomforting truth. This is a very comforting lie, not just because it helps a meat industry to hide the brutal realities of what it's doing to the planet, but also because it chimes with thousands of years of comforting lies about about hurting animals. She says we have this great sort of illusion of virtue with the herding of animals and then this comes back big time in the European Renaissance. And that's basically the story being told by Alan Savoring, Kiss the Ground, just with a whole new layer of bullying piled on it.
