Is This a Critique of the Social or Just Current State Independent of Capitalism?
I think Dylan's critique is something I had in my head reading the whole thing, and I always do with these types of accounts. Is this really just a critique of the social rather than a particular economic situation? There's no nostalgia that you can go back to, but it's not a function of human nature. But because de Borde is claiming that the spectacle arises from the modern form of production, he's essentially saying that what this is is different in kind from what has passed before.
