The Famous Divide Between the Continental Rationalists and the British Empiricists
Rationalism is the idea that knowledge can be arrived at through the use of reason. Empiricism, on the other hand, is the notion that knowledge needs to come from sense experience. These two ways of thinking are what people argued about in this age of confusion. The three big british empiricists were john locke, george berkeley and david hume. The threebig continental rationalists were descart, spinoza and leipnitz.
