Do Rules Make People Happy?
Do different types of thickness of rules lead to greater human happiness? That's a really interesting question. I think a society which leaves absolutely no room for discretion for the exercise of judgment is not a happy society. And it's something that's extremely interesting about the modern world, that the exercise of discretion and the exercise of judgement has been systematically conflated with the wastful run of wanton subjectivity.
