The Importance of Science Fiction Studies

The only science fiction I liked growing up was Star Wars and didn't really look like Blade Runner. And it wasn't until actually when I was in college reading in anthropology and linguistics that I happened to see the movie John Carter, which is a bomb box office bomb Disney adaptation of Edgar icebergs princess of Mars from 1912. So he then started getting interested in science fiction dish anthropology and just dove headlong into that. At the same time that she was becoming like you know a little baby Marxist and feminist and all kinds of other things and that really resonated with her.
