An editor publishes an accusation that someone is a and in doing so, they relied on a source whose identity they cannot verify. They have no idea who it is. And then it turns out that that reporting was false. You would take disciplinary action if that happened? Yes. Now, when kit daniels ran an article accusing an innocent young man of being the parkland mass murderer, based on anonymous sources which he could not verify, he didn't fire him. He intentionally, on purpose, reported an accusation of a crime based on a nonymous source whose identity he could not verification.
