The Lamont Tornado

The first signs of damage in Lamont appeared at 5.18 pm near the Santa Fe Railroad, just north of Lamont's downtown. The twister then traveled north, passing over the Displains River, where it took down Com Ed Transmission Towers. At Argonne National Labs, the roof was ripped off the biology building. Several homes near 86th Street and Lamont Road, just south of Donner's Grove, were splintered before the tornado lifted at 6.20pm. Two people were killed, 23 injured, 87 homes were destroyed and 82 structures were damaged. This is caused by the twister, which lasted 62 minutes, were estimated at $13 million.
