In a society as debauched as antion france? He considered himself above the law. Why should any one care if he drew a little blood on some homeless hooker? That power dynamic was a big source of his excitement. We are not always masters of our hearts, but we can always be masters of our behavior. And it is on the basis of our behaviour that we are judged.
