Introduction

The word trellis is mentioned dozens of times in the Torah. It's a color like a bluish, grain or turquoise and it's also a material, namely wool, dyed with this color. To fulfill the Torah's requirement for this particular color, the dye has to be derived from the blood of a mysterious aquatic creature called a chilazone. The process of extracting and priming the dye for trellis has been gone and disappeared from the Jewish people for about 1500 years. In the past 150 years, the subject of trellis had a resurgence and resurfaced to the collective consciousness of the Jewish nation.
