The Penance of Confession
It says here in 1460 that the penance the confessor imposes must take into account the penance personal situation. It goes on to say it must correspond as far as possible with the gravity and nature of this is committed. And so yes, that's the ideal but not a lot of times we know that the real is not always that. For example, maybe you go to confession and you can have some big deal sin that you didn't realize is a big deal sin.
