The Story of the Chicken

The story of the modern chicken doesn't get going until the beginning of the 20th century. Victorians had been very good at breeding chickens in latter years of 19th century. They were fascinated by idea of improving animals and domestic creatures to be the best that they could be. In 1913, a chap called Professor James Dryden who in 1913 put his best chickens to the test. Prior to this, you'd have been lucky if you got 70 eggs out of a chicken per year.
