Imagination and Technology Networks

I hope that there is a way to leverage progressive municipal power to develop something like technology networks today. I think today it would look more like hacker spaces or maker spaces, although hopefully with more support and more connectivity to social movements. There are a number of local government initiatives throughout the United States that are designed to attract technology investments. If we could redirect those efforts towards something like this, I think it would be a positive step. We don't want technologists to be in the driving seat, but they do have skills that would be invaluable in imagining and implementing a better internet.
