How Do We Determine the Tidal Volume in Adults?
Tidal volume in adults is around six to eight mills per kilogram. It's based on the lean, or ideal bodyweight. We need to balance that reduction in our tidal volume with an increase in the respiratory rate. The other component of minute ventilation was the respiratrate. And here in the main we just want to be reflecting a normal physiological level. But i think the really important thing about ventilation, certainly in the emergency setting, is that it's a reactive and it's a dynamic process.
