The notion rose during a workshop in 2000 at the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences. The concept has exploded in its own right, spawning countless papers over the past six years. When the number of connections reaches a critical threshold, a phase shift causes the largest cluster of nodes to grow rapidly and uber-connectivity results.
