Is Jesus a Sun God?
Once they become beings who make decisions, then you can petition them. Then if you're tending toward monotheism, you might make the god a demigod. That's how we meet Hercules, Samson and the others. So their demigod origin explains why they have superpowers, but not necessarily everything they're doing with them. And I think it's the same thing in the New Testament.
