The Stoics and the Internal Socrates

The Stoics believed that humans could not ascend to an apparent contradiction. So one of the best ways to persuade other people to help their moral education was to make clear the contradictions in what they believed. Epictetus says, someone who is skilled in reasoning will thus be able to show each person the contradiction that is causing him to go astray. That's why virtue is knowledge and vice is ignorance.
