Lucille Lorenzo's Ink Paintings Respond to Black Writers
Lucille Lorenzo is a scholar and artist. She began experimenting with using art to respond to the works of black writers who she didn't get to read as a student. One of those paintings went on to become the cover of Zain Yao's book Disaffected, the cultural politics of feeling in 19th century America. To me, this collaboration of sorts captures something of the queer of color ethos, femme survival, and Black Asian counter intimacies that informs the feeling otherwise of disaffected.
