Xenophon probably played his part in the defense of Athens during Peloponation War. He may also have been involved in political upheavals and immediate aftermath of defeat. From 402 to 400 BC, Xenophon joined mercenary Greek army to help Cyrus the Younger seize Persian throne from Artaxerxes. Socrates told him to consult Delphic Oracle to see whether or not he should go since friendship with Iranian prince might be seen as treason by Athenians.
