The Irrevocability of the Royal Decree

Darius was quick to uphold all of the decrees of Cyrus and even etched in stone, once again, literally on a mountain that decrees are not to be overturned by future kings. So as soon as Memacon breaks out that language right here in verse 19, it is going to set off some reading bells for Xerxes who's like, yeah, royal decree written in stone. Uh huh, disrespect. Yeah, discord. We see that playing out in the fact that the descendants of the nobles who helped Darius claim the throne are still on this seven member council that has unlimited access to the king.
