Caroline Sheridan was born on March 22, 1808. Her father was Thomas Sheridan, a colonial officer and the son of Richard Brinsley Sheridan,. The playwright who had penned the School for Scandal. When she was 11, she wrote this journal entry that she was resolved to write her own long poem. She was very quick-witted but that appears to have been in, in some case, a little bit of a defense mechanism.
