Is She Going to Cut Public Spending?
If you want to do something as politically toxic as cutting the welfare budget, you certainly can't do it while cutting taxes for the rich. That just doesn't seem to be very much political pragmatism among this bunch who are now in charge. I mean, I don't think we've acknowledged enough how much of an admission of failure it would be for the government to now go about cutting public spending. When in the leadership campaign and when the first plans were briefed, it was said that we didn't need to worry about that because growth would pay for it all.
