Amazon.com has over two billion of debt on the balance sheet, which increased from 2000 to 2001 and 2001 to 2002. They had tried saying, okay, well, maybe auctions don't make sense on Amazon, but we still want to allow other people to sell on Amazon. What if we just do fixed price, like a regular retail type listing? So they started this thing called Z shops. But again, it was a separate tab website. It wasn't like right on the product page of Amazon.com. And what they realized is that differentiates Amazon positively versus eBay.

Amazon. No company has impacted the internet — and all of modern life — more than this one.
