Search Engines

Search engine is powerful because it uses links to sources as a proxy for reputation. But we have to admit tt that that is a disturbing level of power to kind of frame the world, given to a company that is not in any way politically or democratically accountable. i don't blame people for being wary of google, because it is very popular, very powerful. A lot of antnat such as do occur there. But the question is, why hasn't someone come up with a system that would be better? It seems to a, seems to do what a lot of people wanted to do.
