The Argument for Union in the War of 1812
The South threatened to walk out if they didn't get some of their slave population counted in the apportionment. The argument for union is both an argument for financial efficiency and expediency, Alvin says. It's also a practical choice as there was national security concern that England would come back - which it did during the War of 1812.
