Van Doren: I sort of think that Patterson may have had a hand in writing some of Wilkie's speeches. Rand was so disappointed by Wilkie's campaign that she decided to start her own intellectual movement for freedom. That is how she ended up meeting Isabel Patterson starting to group, trying to arrange a coordination of intellectuals for freedom. And that's how they got to meet in early 1941.
