Elizabeth's Secret to Women's Suffrage
Elizabeth, Katie Stanton and Susan B. Anthony were just getting busy about this time. The swing towards the suffrage's efforts to try to get white women the vote before black women really turned Elizabeth off. As for employment, she was able to be hired as a clerk at the US Post Office Department in Washington, D.C., a position that she held for about four years. But at the age of 65, she was bumped down to a job that had very little pay. She resigned and went back to Richmond. Her house fell into massive disrepair because she couldn't afford to get anything fixed.
