Pulsoximeters and the Pandemic
The idea of handing out pulse oximeters emerged during the pandemic. We saw patients presenting with low oxygen levels, but often with an absence of feeling really breathless. This phenomenon known as silent hypocia made us rethink what we were doing. The whole point of this whole strategy is trying to get in early to prevent people becoming that sick by admitting patients at a more salvageable in their illness.
