The book is a combination of history and a genealogy at once, about how scientists move away from what i consider to be an open mindedness about the mental and subjective states of other animals. Hen you talk about this sort of silent century, a period of time in which we really didn't project anything into what's happening in the mind of an animal. And unfortunately, this movement away from an interest in mental interiority comes at a gigantic cost for the sciences; it means that we can't be psychologists.
