Anne Boleyn and Elizabeth I (with Tracy Borman)
Noble Blood
The Relationship Between Mary and Elizabeth
Elizabeth had a very intense relationship with her older half-sister Mary as well, even though she did. Obviously because Anne had been so cruel to the young Mary. So Mary had every reason to despise Elizabeth. And I think it's actually to Mary's credit that she felt sorry for Elizabeth when Anne had been executed and Henry didn't want to know Elizabeth. But what sets them on a collision course is religion. Because of course, Mary is very definitely Catholic and Elizabeth is Protestant. When Mary's queen, Elizabeth increasingly seems a threat, a rival to the throne. And that's when it goes horribly wrong.
