CHAPTER

Is It Legal?

A US-UK startup called Do Not Pay offers chat bots that give legal advice. They say they've helped 3 million people or so but want to test out this new technology in the real world. The founder put out a call on Twitter asking for someone who'd been recently charged with a speeding ticket to be their guinea pig. He's going to wear an earpiece and then the AI running on a smartphone is going to listen to all the court proceedings and tell the defendant exactly what he should be telling the judge. And the company seems optimistic that this AI can get the person off their charge but they have offered to pay the fine if they don't succeed.
