The Effects of Polarization on the Axon
An action potential or a nerve impulse is caused when there's some sort of input or some sort of disturbance to that plasma membrane. Okay, and these can be negatively charged and positively charged. And in most cases, these channels or these gates are closed. So they're ready to be activated by pressure or a chemical or whatever. Now, when these channels are closed, the inside of the cell has a negative charge and the outside is positively charged. That is pretty much an action potential, you're getting that whole series of activity or events occurring down the axon.
