I didn't want anyone to come off as one dimensional and evil, I think a lot about how nobody thinks that they're the bad guy. So even if I am remembering everything as it happened it would be as it happened from my point of view which is still like there's a lot of like room for for error there too. As I was finishing the book I was like oh my god I love my mom so much she sacrificed so much for me she's just such an amazing human being. Despite all of this like bad stuff that she might have done. And so I really felt a lot of urgency to ask those questions of her what her motivations were when she was acting badly. She
