All Lazaretto physicians were political appointees. They owed their position to their political loyalty to the party of the governor. Robinson was no different, but he was a skillful physician who actually treated really desperate cases of yellow fever successfully. He negotiated these very difficult situations with determination, resolve and political savvy in a way that no other Board of Health member had done in the history of the institution.
