The Sentence Doesn't Mean the Time You're in Prison
Under the current sentencing regime, it's likely that these type of offenses would have attracted a two thirds in custody. They then serve the remainder of their sentence on license subject to condition. If they breach any of their conditions, the Secretary of State can revoke their license and recall them to prison. There are quite often considerable restrictions upon a person once they are released, depending on that individual's risk assessment effectively.
