The Rise and Fall of the London Stock Exchange
The story of the London markets really kind of picks up in the sort of in the late 60s, early 70s where it's a world that is entirely unrecognizable from the contemporary world of finance. It starts with this man's world, these figures, these jobbers, trading with each other, learning how to look after the money for the partners and so forth. But at the same time, it's strangely meritocratic. You didn't have to be the son of a member of the House of Lords in order to get a job and prosper on the floor of the London Stock Exchange. And that then transforms over the course of the years and the story that the book tells.
