The Power of Neural Networks for Providing Insight

Newton and Leibniz were coming along at a time when mathematics was, I don't know enough about the details of mathematics to know exactly what all the relevant precursors were that were in place. But certainly Euclid and the systematization of geometry was a well-established body of mathematical theory. So for Einstein, it seems easy to say there was an established paradigm of developing such kind of systems and he was building on top of it. How much we should credit Newton and LeibNiz with actually sort of laying the foundations as opposed to building on things that others had already established?
