MariaDB has some features that are pretty unique. It lets you do, I would say, a lot of parallel queries. You can add another node and it'll automatically rebalance the clusters. The slices are pretty cool. They hold little parts,I would say, of your table. And those sets of rows, it knows how to track and join them in a parallel fashion.
