The Beginning of Slavery in the North

The first reference to African slavery in the New England was in reference to the Pequot War in 1637. After this ambush in Mystic, Connecticut, the women and children were enslaved in New England. The refugees from what happened in Mystic were kind of fanned out as enslaved people across New England. They were actually traded down to the Caribbean, down to the slave markets of the Caribbean.
