"I've definitely changed a lot put it that way in terms of you know if you go back to my first novel I wrote a novel called The Last Family in England and that was published in 2004," he says. "There's so many jokes I thought were funny that aren't funny there's so many allusions to things that were over complicated and stuff like that." Over the last 10 years has largely been edited by the same person and Francis Bikmore at Canegate who's great". He adds: "It's a very interesting relationship you have with the nerds because over time they've seen all your mistakes and all you know the bits that readers don't get to see"
