"I don't think if we paint all these people as demons it's actually going to help us get to net zero," says the author. Farming is an identity job not what farmers do but who they are, he adds. "There were definitely you could definitely earn money in farming back in the sort of hey days of the 80s subsidies" The book asks a wider society to complicate our narratives of farm workers and their choices.
